Very Important: Japan Trip Cancelleration
In light of the new developments surrounding the earthquake in Japan, we have decided to cancel our Japan Trip. In the last couple of days, following factors have emerged for our decision to cancel our trip:
- Substantial risk of aftershock: The Japanese government has warned that the risk of an aftershock of at least 7.0 M is 50% within the next week. The risk of such an aftershock for the duration of our trip is unknown; however, we believe that it will be significantly higher than baseline
- Risk of nuclear radiation – While the risk of a meltdown is negligible, some radioactive material has leaked around the region and further dissemination of radioactive material around the region is possible. The risks of this radioactive material affecting Tokyo is extremely low.
- Scale of destruction in the regions affected – Authorities have estimated that the final death toll could easily exceed 10,000. We’ve decided that it’s not the best time to visit.
- Government warning from UK – The Foreign & Commonwealth has publically advised against non-essential travels to Japan: “We advise against all non essential travel to Tokyo and the north east of Japan whilst we assess the damage caused by the 11 March earthquake and resulting tsunamis. There is a continued risk of tsunamis in Japan.”
Considering these factors, we’ve decided against going on the trip.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by this cancellation. We are working hard to refund your trip payment as soon as possible but please bear in mind that this is a lengthy process due to the amount of paperwork involved, so please bear in mind that it may take up to a month. We estimate that we’ll be able to refund ~700.
We apologize again for this cancellation, and we hope you understand this difficult decision.
Regards,
Japan Trip Organizers
